Soccer Mama We meet the South African woman from Clairwood using football to save locals from a life of crime.
Meet Dolly George AKA Mama Clairwood. A beauty queen in her youth and a lifelong football fan, by normal standards she should be settled into a life of retirement and relaxation. But this is no ordinary lady. Having lost her only son at the age of 21 and remaining unmarried, Dolly has adopted a new family – the local boys of Clairwood. And she is guiding them to a better life through football. While her young players are still unemployed and without state support, soccer has given them a reason to live. Natthi, the team coach attests: “soccer is our life…our daily bread”. And it’s all down to the work of one woman. He says: “she’s a mother of the nation…she deserves a prize for this…she’s great”.
