Water Crisis

Water Crisis Children in India are being killed in the daily scrabble for clean water. As India's rivers become more polluted, 'water apartheid' is increasing.
"My son is dead because of water," grieves Sugriv Giri. When water tankers made their first delivery to his community for six days, a stampede ensued. His son was crushed to death. "More than 80% of the population has no access to water and water is being wasted to wash Mercedes and irrigate lawns," complains Dr Vandana Shiva. What little water there is for the poor is often polluted and dangerous. Diseases like diarrhoea kill 400,000 young children every year. Even the sacred Ganges is affected - dumped sewage and pollution from 100 cities has made it one of the dirtiest, most dangerous rivers in the world.
