Cueca

Cueca Mario Rojas is on a mission to re-ignite the passion of Chileans via his satellite TV show. His aim is to re-introduce native Cueca dancing; a dance that is at the heart of the Chilean identity.
Cueca evolved out of early 19th Century working class bars. A couple pass and circle one another to rapid guitar music. Yet during Pinochet's rule, it changed from a dance of love, to a symbol of dictatorship. Women whose husbands had disappeared would dance alone as protest to Pinochet's rule. But Rojas is determined to bring it back to its joyful roots. "Cueca was an expression of freedom, born with the independence of Chile".
