Afghanistan - Between the Fronts - 29 min 37 sec [28 July 2008]

EXCLUSIVE: For the first time we can offer an action packed view of life on the Taliban front! This is the Afghan war far from the sanitised images of the embedded journalists. It's bloody, it's fierce and the Taliban look nowhere near to being defeated.

Perched on the edge of a mountain Taliban fighters prepare to ambush a convoy approaching up a narrow gorge. The Taliban weapons open up with a furious onslaught. “What is Munawar doing? He should shoot with anti-tank missiles”. The convoy is trapped. “Check to see if anyone is alive? Are they all dead?” Near Tora Bora we witness many hundreds of Taliban supporters gathered to hear the Taliban speak. 'We are financed by the same people who also supported us during the Soviet occupation, pious wealthy Muslims from around the World’. In contrast we gain access to the elite Afghan Commandos, who rigidly control the camera crew. They are well trained but on the sharpest front of this war, trying to fight an invisible enemy with little protection. Their Islamic slogans sound like the Taliban’s but they recognise their country will remain in the dark ages unless it’s tribal divides are overcome. ‘As long as we are still fighting about the fact that you come from Kandahar, I am from Kunduz and he is from Masar, we can never rebuild’.
