Exporting Asylum - Cambodian Solution

Exporting Asylum - Cambodian Solution Australia plans to resettle refugees from its offshore detention centres in Cambodia. Filmed just before the agreement had been confirmed, this report explores what awaits refugees in one of Asia's poorest nations.

Refugees living in Cambodia face a daily reality of poverty and desperation. One Rohingya man explains, "the locals can't survive. Even the Cambodians can't make a living, so how can I?" With no support from the Cambodian government they depend on the charity of welfare organisations to survive. Human rights workers are also scathing about Cambodia's track record with refugees. According to Ou Virak from the Cambodian Centre for Human Rights, "massive human rights violations are taking place here. I doubt that we can absorb the refugees and protect their rights."
