Democracy in Turmoil

The Ukrainian president accused of murder

Democracy in Turmoil As Kuchma loses a parliamentary vote of no confidence, we examine the evidence that he was behind the murder of Georgiy Gongadze. The critical journalist disappeared mysteriously last September after writing a series of reports on government corruption.
Kuchma denies involvement, but his former Justice Minister confirms the tapes are genuine. Nearly ten years since independence from the USSR, the case has brought Ukranians back onto the streets to demand Kuchma's resignation. We speak to Gongazde's family and the corruption-weary protestors. "Anyone may be arrested, jailed and killed without involvement of the judiciary, as in the years of Stalin".
