Contraception allows women to choose when and how often they get pregnant. But in Sierra Leone only 6% of couples use modern methods.

Myths and old superstitions play a part.

It’s good that we have Family Planning. But now my wife is fat and looking good. What if she uses this and then gets thin? People will laugh at us and say I cannot feed my wife.

When women go to family planning, they are no longer afraid to flirt. That’s why some men don’t like it. They think, now that they can’t get pregnant, their wives will do what they like.

VO:

Lack of access is another barrier to contraceptive use. Like Zainabu, 2/3 of the population live in rural areas with basic health services.

But this community is fortunate. An outreach team comes every month to provide family planning.
