In the Name of the Game Ten years after the last serious crowd trouble in South Africa, once again safety measures at football games are in the spotlight after 43 people died at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.
The stadium was incredibly overcrowded, so much so that spectators were spilling onto the pitch. Before the situation became deadly it bore many of the hallmarks of a cause for concern, yet nothing was done to mitigate it. This report investigates how this tragedy was allowed to happen.
