Endangered Salmon

Disease and pollution threaten Norway's salmon

Endangered Salmon Off the Atlantic coast of Norway, heavy metals and a Japanese algae are threatening the livelihood of salmon farmers.
Deep in the idyllic Norwegian fjords lies one of the country's largest fish farms, holding 560,000 salmon. Ships and settlements have polluted the bay, which has let a deadly pollution-friendly algae take hold. Infectious Salmon Anaemia is lethal, and incidences are becoming more frequent, leading to worries that the disease may become as much as a problem as BSE or foot and mouth.
