Rascals

Papua New Guinea's Brutal Gang Culture

Rascals We look at the cultural roots of crime in PNG, where gangs stop cars in their tracks and quarrels have traditionally been settled in a vociferous, hands-on way.
'Drive fast, never stop and get someone else to open your gates.' This is the reality for many living in Papau New Guinea, a country troubled by gang violence. One land owner has to have three layers of security to feel safe, and theft and murder are not uncommon. ABC Australia follows the gangs themselves, capturing a live hold up on film and interviewing a former 'Rascal', as the gang is known.
