The Hajj

First pilgrimage to Mecca following 9/11

The Hajj We show Muslims at worship at Mecca and stoning the devil at the Jamarat pillars in Arafat. All are keen to rehabilitate the image of Islam following September 11th.
In front of the ka’bah, or “cube”, a sea of white robed Muslims bow in respect to Allah. Every hour, 150,000 men, all in their basic white Ihram and women, with their faces uncovered, circle around the meteorite sent from Heaven – the centre of all Muslim worship. Unprecedented and colourful footage follows possibly the largest number of pilgrims ever. From their Temporary homes in the newly fireproofed and air– conditioned tents in the nearby town of Mina, we go through Mecca to the stoning of the devil at the Jamarat pillars in Arafat. The Hajj this year had special resonance in the wake of September 11th, as Muslims are keen to repair the tarnished Image of Islam. “Outside of the Middle East, Muslims are being stereotyped,” states one believer. This film goes a long way to showing the most important type of Jihad.
