Field Day for Forgers The Mafia are famous for their money-laundering, but have traditionally also been behind large scale money forging. Will the Euro be any more difficult to fake?
In recent months almost 40% more counterfeits notes have been found compared to last year. With the Euro soon to become the default currency for many, banks are trying to rid the market of counterfeit currency. 12 days ago, Italian and Austrian detectives were only just able to prevent one biggest currency scams in recent history. Great lengths are being taken to make the Euro as hard to fake as possible, but there are worries that this won't be enough. Since the currency will be available in so many countries, and given peoples' unfamiliarity with the new notes, there are worries that forgeries will be on the rise.
