Las Chicas Harley South American governments have a reputation for being notoriously corrupt. In Peru, they are taking novel steps to combat this problem.
Four years ago, the Fenix brigade was created to deal with dangerous driving. It is made up entirely of Harley-riding women, who have a reputation for being incorruptible. “You can’t corrupt woman in Peru,” claims policewomen Lili Campos. Their job leaves them vulnerable to abuse by disgruntled drivers, while the long hours cause family problems. Despite this, the women are proud to be playing such an important role.
