TOTAL ECLIPSE

A celebration of the work of choreographer Ohad Naharin

TOTAL ECLIPSE The American dancer Martha Graham once stated that "Dance is the hidden language of the soul." Anyone who has seen the work of internationally renowned choreographer Ohad Naharin would agree with her. Journeyman Pictures is proud to bring you a stunning 55 docu-drama inspired by his work. Filmed in a moody and poetic style, it explores the relationship between desire and reality, juxtaposing haunting images to take modern dance to dazzling new heights.
Ohad Naharin has single-handedly reshaped the way we understand dance today. His work obliterates the norms and erases the standards that people have come to expect from dance. As artistic director of the Batsheva dance company he revolutionised dance in Israel, while his critically acclaimed production of 'Sabotage Baby' transformed the company into one of the world's leading ensembles. He has also worked with distinguished companies like the Frankfurt Ballet and Sydney Dance company and taught at Julliard.

This stunning production, inspired by his choreography of 'Sabotage Baby', questions the desires and inspirations motivating Naharin. It combines personal confessions and tantalising extracts from performances of 'Sabotage Baby' to create a dream logic that is hypnotically compelling. Through dance and music a Faustian tale emerges as he reflects on everything he was forced to surrender to reach the pinnacle of his art.

It's a complex production, probing into the darkest reaches of Naharin's subconscious. Fragments of eccentric whimsicality crisscross with haunting scenes of despair and moment of profound comedy. Bodies gravitate uncontrollably towards each other and time stands still as we journey with Naharin into the strange, distorted world of the artist.
