Saddam's Support

Saddam Hussein's support for Palestinian fighters

Saddam's Support Outside the nation he rules, Saddam Hussein is hailed as a hero by many in the Palestinian communities of Gaza and the West Bank
For every Palestinian who dies resisting Israel, Saddam Hussein gives the mourning family a cheque. The going rate was increased a year ago to $25,000 dollars for a suicide bomber and $10,000 for a Palestinian fighter. The money is dispersed amid great fanfare. Colonel Ali Bayati is an Iraqi and a leading figure in the Arab Liberation Front. "Saddam Hussein supports the families of martyrs... he supports anyone who gets killed fighting Israel." In a ceremony we see the ALF distribute more than $250,000 to the families of 26 men killed in the conflict with Israel. Speakers hail the Iraqi leader as a hero while ALF youth swear revenge on Israel. In these times of hardship, with no end to the conflict in sight, Saddam's money is needed and welcome.
