Giostra: Medieval Jousting

Giostra: Medieval Jousting The Giostra is a spectacular joust between the neighbourhoods of Arezzo, perpetuating the customs of the Middle Ages.
Each district of this beautiful Tuscan town is represented by two knights. The Giostratori tilt at Il Buratto, a wood and metal figure. In an entirely realistic reconstruction, the knights gallop at full speed, aiming for the shield of the spring-mounted “Saracen”, their sworn enemy, which whips back the full weight of its mace at the rider and his mount. The organisers have banned all anachronisms such as cars, street signs and telephones in a bid to truly capture the atmosphere of the Middle Ages.
