Keeping Immigrants at Bay

Keeping Immigrants at Bay The issue of illegal immigration is one of the most serious problems facing the EU. But who should take responsibility for the hundreds dying to get into Europe every year?
In a detention camp in Greece, 112 illegal immigrants are being imprisoned. They have no beds, blankets, toilets or showers. The water is undrinkable. But in many ways, these are the lucky ones. At least they're still alive. Every year, hundreds of people die trying to get into Europe. "These smugglers are ruthless types who do not hesitate to put lives at risk," complains coastguard D. Karabinis. "They only care about their profits." They use decrepit unseaworthy boats, abandoning their human cargo at the first sign of danger. With Greece under pressure to clamp down on illegal immigrants, the plight of these refugees can only worsen.
