Losing Hearts and Minds

Losing Hearts and Minds The US has lost moral authority in Iraq, with abuses continuing even since the Abu Ghraib scandal. Prisoners are routinely humiliated, and held on the flimsiest of evidence.
On 'Operation Grand Slam' to root out Baghdad insurgents, no guns or explosives are found and detainees protest their innocence. But that won't save them from indefinite detention in a prison like Abu Ghraib, where they are liable to humiliation and torture. Techniques like the 'Scorpion' are common; a prisoner's hands and feet are bound together, then soldiers jump on his back. At least one man has died this way. Zeini saw a mutilated and sodomised prisoner at the airport prison. He says the US soldiers apologised on his release but warned 'Say nothing outside or we'll bring you back in'. We film inside Abu Ghraib, but the authorities are saying nothing. Iraq's previous Minister for Human Rights resigned as he couldn't investigate US abuses which he tells us are 'comparable' to those under Saddam. Legally Iraq cannot now prosecute the US for abuse.
