When Push Come to Shove

When Push Come to Shove One Rugby match between Blackheath F.C. (South East England) and Zwide United, an all black team from South Africa, turned out to be significantly more than just about the game. Played in 1993 – just a year before the end of apartheid – this fixture was Zwide United’s first against a foreign touring side. ‘When Push Comes to Shove’ shows rugby union’s ability to bring people together, as the players and staff of both clubs form an unexpected friendship. The progress that has been made in Rugby Union, as well as in South African society, is plain to see from this remarkable tale from the pre-professional era of the game.
