In the Eye of the Beholder 'In the Eyes of the Beholder' depicts the life of South African photographer Pieter Magubane. Seen as a more of a photo-historian he has documented the history of South Africa in a visual format since the 1950's. Pieter's career in photography started when he began identifying with the social issues that black people faced in South Africa. Since then, his photos have documented to the world life in South Africa through Drum Magazine. In 1958, he was the first black person in South Africa to win 1st prize for the best press pictures of the year. This film shows the hardships, prison sentences and family loss that Pieter has had to endure. But, these setbacks including 585 days in solitary confinement, did not deter Pieter who has been regarded as one of the most well-known and respected photographers worldwide. This film has an outstanding amount of footage of Pieter Magubane's photographs.
