Anita Malaha's sight had deteriorated so badly she hadn't "been able to see at night for one month". But with a little education about vitamin A deficiency, and a $2 pill her sight was restored. "Today I can see much better. I can do everything", she raves. The program aims to alleviate the health crisis by teaching older women how to run health care classes. Traditionalists initially resisted, but today even they have been impressed. Infant mortality has been cut by half, and 24,000 child deaths prevented each year. It seems that Nepal no longer has to rely on witch doctors to "cast away evil spells."
