Ghana Slavery

Ghana Slavery Centuries after their ancestors were shipped from Ghana as slaves, thousands of African-Americans are returning. But instead of welcoming them back, locals see them as strangers.
"We are no longer coons and niggers", states Seestah Njinga. "We are proud African people who are here where we're supposed to be". Seestah is one of the estimated thousands who have moved to Ghana from America and Europe. But for many, it's a bittersweet homecoming. "We wanted to feel like we had come home but we weren't welcomed by the local population", explains Kwaku Asante. Most locals don't even regard them as fellow blacks. They call them 'obruni', meaning 'whites' and charge them higher prices. They don't understand why anyone with European or American citizenship would want to live in Ghana.
