One hundred and fifty years ago in rural France, a girl collecting wood in a cave saw a vision of the Virgin Mary. From then on Lourdes, last chance saloon to the faithful and Catholic Disneyland to others, has boomed.
Peadar Clarke was immobile due to Multiple Sclerosis and given four years to live when, he says, he was cured by the Virgin in his hotel room at Lourdes. "Our lady was smiling at me, I remember smiling back. It was when my hands were out that I realised my hands weren't shaking anymore!" And then Peadar realised that he could stand as well.
