Curse of the Camorra

Curse of the Camorra The battle to contain the Camorra is old but recently the body count has soared. Faced with competition from Nigerian gangs, the Camorra is determined to remain in control of its turf at all costs.
'They just fired 145 bullets in 45 seconds, and 6 died.' Silvana works for the Anti Mafia authority and is used to the killings. However, the massacre of six innocent migrants from Nigeria was brutal even by her standards. They were gunned down in a shop as retaliation against Nigerian drug dealers who had dared to encroach on the Camorra's turf. The fear in the black community is palpable. 'All people are afraid, everybody is afraid here', a young black woman says. African gangs have been turning this quiet town into a major trafficking hub but the Camorra doesn't tolerate competition. 'Of course there was also a racist component. This is not the first massacre perpetrated against North African immigrants', the prosecutor reveals. The population has been turning a blind eye to the massacres, keeping up a culture of silence on which mafia clans have been thriving. Law enforcement agencies are also being overwhelmed and sentenced criminals come out of jail in record time. 'Camorra members who had committed many murders and gained world wide notoriety, were released after just three years'. The battle to crush the Camorra is fiercer than ever.
