The Turning Point This powerful film tells the story of Indonesia's revolution against President Suharto, including gut-wrenching footage of the student protests that well and truly took Indonesia to a tipping point.
When 6 students were shot dead with live ammunition in Trisakti University, it unleashed the riots which left 500 dead and changed the Indonesian political landscape forever. Inside the campus on the day of the killings, this report offers an insight into the vanguard of the opposition to Suharto. On the day of the killings, students from Trisakti began to march towards parliament. They came armed with roses, a symbol of People's Power. Without warning, the shooting started. Bystanders cowered on the footpaths. Inside the campus all hell broke loose.The next day throngs of rioters, outraged at the students' deaths, surrounded the university, urging the students inside to join them. President Suharto could no longer survive the political instability; his power had to be maintained through the barrel of the gun. The events at Trisakti will go down in history as Indonesia's turning point.
