Time and Tide

Time and Tide The precious heritage of the Scottish Orkney islands is under threat by coastal erosion and with it 8,500 years evidence of human habitation. Will these historic wonders perish under the sea?
"It is actually quite rare to get really good preservation like this", archaeologist Julie Gibson says of the Viking graveyard. Move across the water to Westray and we find archaeologists digging against time as coastal erosion washes away the sites. And while the government struggles to find the funds to save their heritage, the archaeologists pledge "to work as hard as we can to preserve it."
