Women's Voices

Women's Voices On the eve of the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, this powerful report gives a voice to women in the Eastern Congo - a place the UN has called 'the rape capital of the world'.
To be a woman in the Congo is to suffer. For decades, conflict and civil war has led to an environment where rape and violence against women has become commonplace. Despite this, women of the Congo refuse to suffer in silence and are seeking a future where they can live with peace, dignity and respect. Women like Ridelphine have already set their sights on change: "We are hopeful that our future is not one of darkness - that's why we are fighting. We hope the future for women of the Congo will be a future full of light - a future full of hope."
