Gran Power

Gran Power The lost generation of AIDS orphans in South Africa has left a terrible legacy. Many are looked after by their grandmothers, now a charitable global partnership of world grandmothers is offering their help.
"I have photos to mourn those who are lost", explains Lucia, a grandmother who now looks after her HIV positive grandchild Bobo, in Alexandra Township. The disaster of Aids has led to a lost generation, leaving behind the young and old. In Canada 89 year old Norma has created a cross boundary, global movement of better off older people determined to help in whatever way they can. Unlike most charitable campaigns, this foundation offers face-to-face friendship and understanding. "It's become a social movement in Canada. They are serious and they have a lot to say", explains Norma. Bringing up kids in old age is not easy, however as one such mother explains, "each of us felt rather special because of the international grannies... perhaps we are somebody".
