Sun Damage We all know that excessive sun exposure can seriously damage our skin, but what if sunscreens are just as dangerous? Metal oxides in the lotions may be causing damage to our skin and seeping into our blood streams.
Exposure to the sun's UVB Radiation is what causes skin damage and even cancer; the best sunscreens use metal oxides to block out those damaging rays. But the worry is that these nanoparticles could also be harming us from the outside in. "I think we should start thinking about a combination of protection strategies, so looking at sun-avoidance combined with sun-protection with clothing, and sunscreen as a last line of defence", warns Professor Michael Kimlin.
