Tales of Survival

Tales of Survival Thousands have died as a result of the 7.8 magnitude quake in Nepal over a week ago. This report travels through the worst-affected areas, hearing stories of devastation and examining the political fractures revealed.
"There were five or six houses, all of them collapsed", describes a 17-year-old girl who lost her mother in the quake. Thousands have lost loved ones, not to mention their homes and possessions. With seemingly little emergency planning by the government, those looking to the authorities for help are disappointed. "There are too many politicians here, but there's no leader to think about the country from their heart", says Reshima, a woman living in one of Nepal's tent cities that have taken the place of ruined neighbourhoods. A building collapses as the crew are filming and they are forced to run for safety. Amidst the chaos, aid teams from China and India take the lead, but questions remain about their political motivations. "A lot of rescue teams came from overseas, but the government didn't send them to the required areas in time", journalist Kamal explains. This report examines both the personal and political in the Nepalese crisis, asking what the aftermath will bring. As Kamal predicts, "The impact of this earthquake on Nepal's economy will be felt for at least another ten years."
