Are we preparing our children for the workplace of the future?

Future Proof In a rapidly digitising world, more and more jobs are being lost to technology. Smarter devices now replace people in a wide range of both simple and technical tasks. As conventional employment disappears, new work must be found in an ever-changing economic landscape, and it is estimated that many of our children will work in jobs that do not yet exist. How can we prepare them for these unknown challenges in a future we can only speculate on?
"Can you feel emotions?" ask a group of children. "I don't have feelings like you, but I can detect emotions", replies Pink, a robot. Schools in Australia are working to prepare their students for a radically different world, where many of today's jobs will not exist, and some of tomorrow's cannot even be imagined. "I believe that coding is the next layer of literacy", says one teacher. Educating parents is as important, persuading them that steering their kids towards "safe" professions like accountancy will no longer guarantee them a job. "Artificial intelligence is solving jobs that we thought traditionally were very highly qualified...It's eating out the middle of the job market."
