Far from the gleaming halls of Trump's White House, bands of heavily armed private militias roam the Arizona border hunting the Mexican cartels smuggling "cocaine, heroin, and sometimes people".
However, these civilian vigilantes, who have no authorisation, have divided opinion. Mark Potok, an expert on militias, argues that, "these people are incredibly dangerous…armed to the teeth and essentially playing war". Tony Estrada, a local Arizona sheriff, echoes this sentiment: "they're going to create more problems". However, militia leader Tim Foley is unrepentant: "I'm not doing this for myself… I'm doing it for everybody".
