The Eco-Right

The Eco-Right The rise of the eco-right highlights a growing awareness of climate change amongst Republicans. Combining protest with prayer, Evangelicals are hoping to reconcile the right with environmentalism.
"There's a perception that Evangelicals are antagonistic towards climate change and that's just not the case", insists Kyle Meyaard-Schaap, founder of Young Evangelicals for Climate Action. With over half of Trump voters convinced that global warming is real, Republicans are open to the idea of the US leading an energy revolution, though many remain opposed to Obama's Clean Power Plan. "If we're going to get rid of regulations what's the alternative?" asks Carlos Curbelo, co-founder of the Climate Solutions Caucus. "The fossil fuel industries are lined up to say 'if you dare talk about a carbon price we are coming after you'", says Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse.
