Killing the Rock
A Syrian sculptor's experience of war
Abu Raja fled to the town of Ramtha in Jordan to escape the brutal war in his native Syria. Stripped of his family and his home, his sculptures reflect the "reality of what is going on in Syria, full of suffering, pain, fire, suppression and blood". But they are also designed to inspire hope for future generations of Syrians. "The message that is carried in my art to our children and grandchildren is that we were builders."
