Putin opponents mount protests across Russia ahead of vote
The Russian presidential elections will be held in March and Putin looks set to extend his tenure. His main opponent Alexei Navalny is barred from running, but his support continues to grow.
“Russia without Putin! Russia without Putin!”, protesters chant in October 2017; a hope shared by many young voters, but looking increasingly unlikely. "If I am not allowed to run, then this procedure cannot be called elections. We will call for a widespread boycott”, opposition leader Alexei Navalny says. With a very young supporter base, it seems he is in for the long game.
