Goodbye America As the US begins to formally withdraw its troops from Afghanistan, some are sceptical about the decision. Stuck between a weak government and an emboldened Taliban, is the country headed for a bloody civil war?
Many analysts are saying that withdrawal could be disastrous: 'If they leave on terrible terms ... it would be really difficult for the U.S. to send in troops on any kind of short term deployment', says journalist Jessica Donati. 'To be the President on whose watch, a worsening of the civil war, the degradation of the rights of Afghan women and others occurs, is a political risk to take', says one former political analyst.
