Cannabis Equity

Cannabis equity policies in Massachusetts

Cannabis Equity Now that cannabis is legal across many states in the US, new Cannabis Equity schemes are working to revitalize regions harmed by the War on Drugs. But are they actually helping?
Combining entrepreneurship and social justice is proving to be a challenge for the billion dollar cannabis industry. Activist Niambe Mackintosh wants more education on the industry's history of incarceration and drug raids. 'Our country spends hundreds of thousands of dollars performing raids'. For some entrepreneurs like Chauncey Spencer, the system isn't working - his shop's rent bankrupted him as he waited for committee approval: 'the longer I waited, the more competition I began to get'. Commissioner Nurys Camargo knows the system is struggling: 'the industry fails to represent a lot of the communities that have been disproportionately harmed by the war on drugs'.
