For weeks, a convoy of Russian armored vehicles slowly approached Kyiv, threatening a siege of Ukraine's capital. Despite enduring constant bombing and the threat of encirclement, Kyiv's residents remain defiant. 'If they dare come here, we will burn them to ashes. To ashes. Not one will be left', says military commander Kola. Many women and elderly residents are having to make the difficult choice between fleeing - itself incredibly risky - or remaining in their home. 'A lot of people have already left and when another family leaves, you ask yourself am I doing the right thing by staying?' says Natalia. The towns around Kyiv are also suffering. The bridge to the commuter town of Irpin has been destroyed. 'There’s no water, no electricity, nothing', says Irpin resident Valentyna.
