Lukiaivka Liberated

The villagers liberated from Russian occupation

Lukiaivka Liberated In the vicinity of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, the village of Lukyanivka has just been liberated after a month of Russian occupation. But the fighting has left enormous destruction in its wake.
"The Russians only allowed the transport of food, but they warned us that if we went out into the street, they would shoot", says Vitaly, a resident. Most of the buildings in the formerly peaceful and quaint village have been destroyed, including the church, but the inhabitants of the village are resilient in their misfortune. Micha, an 82 year-old, was at one point the only civilian who stayed in his house in Lukyanivka. His best friend Chilko was killed; "his wife only found him the next day", he says. ‘"I don’t even talk to my sisters who live in Russia, because they don’t understand what’s going on here. They tell me we are the ones who are waging this war", says Inna, who survived the occupation.
