Germany only formally acknowledged the German Empire's genocide of Namibia's Herero and Nama people one hundred years later. 'They basically worked them to death', says activist Jephta. Germany has agreed to reparations, but some want them to work directly with the impacted groups: 'why is it that they can’t sit and negotiate with the Ovaherero and Nama people?', asks a Herero spokesperson.
