Death in the Forest

Poland's Forgotten Migrants

Death in the Forest The crisis on the border of Poland and Belarus continues, as thousands of migrants make the crossing through the forest on the border; but the conditions and lack of aid can prove deadly.
Roger, a migrant from Cameroon, made the journey with his two brothers through the forest, but both succumbed to the harsh conditions, dying from a snake bite and drinking dirty water. ‘He started to vomit blood, and the next morning he was already dead’, he says. On arrival in Poland, Roger was turned away by border guards. Local residents attempt to defy the authorities and help the migrants. ‘We are witnessing a humanitarian crisis’, says Jakub.
