Boxing Belles

The female rising stars of boxing in Israel

Boxing Belles The race is on to see who will be Israel's first female boxing champion. The two main contenders come from opposing religions. But they are determined to prove that politics won't get in the way of the contest.
Sharon Friedman is a forty year-old Jewish lawyer from New York. Sharon took up boxing for self-defence and to keep fit, but now she is fighting for the title of national champion. She says: "Boxing is what I love and what I do best." Amal, her opponent, is a sixteen year-old Arab girl. Young, but confident, she says of her older opponent: "When we fought she lacked both lots of movement and speed." The contest will show who is the best female boxer in Israel. With Amal and Sharon representing different faiths and opposite camps in today's Israel, Sharon is convinced that "boxing is a great way to bring people together."
