Frontline of Care

Lebanon’s People Filling the Void of a Failing State

Frontline of Care Israel’s war against Lebanon has displaced more than a million people. Various sectors of Lebanese society have stepped up to support a traumatised population seeking refuge on the streets of Beirut and in the mountain villages.
“The kids talk about their land as if it's part of their family, it’s a family member”. 24-year-old Wadad Assaf is one of many volunteers caring for displaced Lebanese refugees, as Israel continues to strike against Beirut and force millions out of their homes. Sociology professor Rania Sukarieh has lived through seven wars, and is now expectant; “the Zionists will be totally happy to come and occupy us again; this is their project”. Strength prevails amongst many of Lebanon’s civilians; “We are used to helping each other because we don’t have other means of support, and in times of crisis we are showing our strength and unity”.
