Bad Pitt: Catfish, Heartbreak and Bankruptcy
How did women end up losing fortunes in fake relationships with Brad Pitt?
“He tells me he’d like to meet me, but that anyone who wants to meet him has to pay 50,000 dollars.” It might sound unreasonable, but Patricia had spent a year being sweet-talked by an Instagram account posing as Brad Pitt, sending him over 100,000 francs. While she was left alone in LA, where she expected to meet Pitt, she’s not alone in the experience. Police Chief Pascal Fontaine confirms that 2025 saw 34 complaints and a loss of almost 3 million francs, estimating that the real number is higher, as “many victims don't dare file a complaint because they feel guilty”. To get inside the mind of a victim, RTS reporter Michael Borgognon poses as one, allowing himself to be sweet-talked by a scammer for over forty days, until he is asked for money. Cyberdetective Marwan Quarab tracks Michael’s scammer to the Ivory Coast and Patricia’s fake Pitt to an address in Nigeria, operating a complicated banking process to make the money irretrievable. Has the deception tarnished her outlook on love? “I can fall in love again, but he’ll have to be physically there!”, is Patricia’s new rule.
