The struggle of the Zanskar valley to survive extreme living conditions

On the Himalaya mountains, in the remote high altitude desert valley of Zanskar, local populations have always been dependent on glaciers which - melting during the spring - provided the water necessary for cultivation and life. Today, in an unequal battle against climate change, the people of Ladakh construct artificial glaciers, mixing traditional techniques and modern practices, to combat the lack of water in spring and contribute towards groundwater recharge.
