B.S.E. Free Beef

The Argentinian beef industry feels the wrath of globalisation

B.S.E. Free Beef Argentina had never had a case of mad cow disease. Yet because of the globalised economy, beef prices have fallen and the Argentinian beef industry has taken a hit.
Argentina’s cattle came from Britain 400 years ago, but since then they have only been fed on grass. The authorities say the facilities to turn dead animals into feed don’t even exist. Argentina can export 28,000 tons of beef to Europe a year. But mad cow disease is still diminishing sales of Argentinean beef, as consumer panic doesn’t recognise meat origin. As a result Europe’s BSE crisis is contagious via the global economy and world beef prices have fallen by around 50% in the last three years. A huge campaign to promote Argentinean beef and win back customers’ trust is being planned – not before time to help the country’s economic crisis.
