Simkin: In Japan, conformity is king.

Simkin: The group is considered more important than the individual. You've have only to boogie on down to the local dance club to see the evidence. In Parapara, everyone grooves in exactly the same groove. You learn the funky moves by going to a master class, where true professionals show the way.

Dr. Yoshiro Nakamatsu.

Simkin: But there is one man who dances to his own beat. He breaks the rules and thinks outside the box. He's Japan's leading entrepreneur, and the world's greatest inventor -- Dr. Yoshiro Nakamatsu.

20:38

The good doctor's most famous creation is the computer floppy disk. He came up with the name floppy after seeing some butterflies in his workshop.

Nakamatsu: Butterfly. I saw that is floppy, so I named floppy.

21:02

Simkin: The doctor holds more patents than anyone else alive or dead. His total of 3,200 is three times better than Thomas Edison could manage.

21:08

Nakamatsu: Kerosene pump. I invented at age of 14 for my mother.

21:18

Simkin: And this is the Dr. Nakamats golf putter, the first putter, he says, to be designed by computer. It's also the first putter I've seen that incorporates a tuning fork.

21:27

Nakamatsu: Excuse!

Golf putter

Simkin: As a result, it's apparently five times more accurate than anything else on the market.

21:42

Nakamatsu: Swing this way -- not like…

Simkin: The good doctor assured us that the putter would work wonders for even the most hopeless case.

Nakamatsu: Good. Almost good.

Simkin: Rather than a hole in one, the putter puts a hole in one's pocket. It retails at nearly 1,500 Australian dollars, but Dr. Nakamatsu insists it's worth the investment.

Nakamatsu: To control direction, this grip was invented. And also, in order to control distance, this head also invented, a special head which generates special frequencies when you hit the ball, this frequency signalsf through this shaft, comes through this grip.

Simkin: Isn't it a bit late, though, once you've hit the ball?

Nakamatsu: Yes.

Simkin: Isn't that a bit late to affect…

Nakamatsu: Yes. And the shaft is also special, because this is gold plated. Gold plated, because in order…

20:38

Simkin: Perhaps the doctor's greatest invention is the one that helps him come up with other inventions.

The Cerebrex Chair

Simkin: Ah, so this is your chair.

Nakamatsu: This is Cerebrex. Yes. This stimulates brain and increases brain power, increase eyesight power, and remove fatigue at very short time, maybe also I'm using this to adjust jet lag. Many purpose. And also shrinking my sleeping time from 8 to 4 hours.

21:02

Simkin: The Cerebrex Chair also cures impotence, helps you lose weight, and makes you look 10 years younger. I thought I'd better give it a try.

21:08

Nakamatsu: Your foot is touching this plate and your head is touching this pillow, makes one circuit and encourage your blood circulation which penetrates into your brain, and makes more active. And such as memory, calculation, every power increase about 130 percent just for sitting twenty minutes.

21:18

Flying shoes

Simkin: I didn't feel 130 percent more intelligent, but it was working off a very low base. No matter. The good doctor has come up with plenty of other inventions to help the cerebrally challenged. We took one for a test bounce.

21:27

Music

Nakamatsu: This is flying shoes, and it protects your knees and brains from the shock from the ground, and also I can run faster, maybe 30 percent more faster than regular jogging.

Dr. Nakamatsu in pool

Simkin: Dr. Nakamatsu comes up with his inventions while swimming under water. He writes down the ideas on his patented waterproof pad.

Simkin: Doctor, you've been under water for some time. What benefit do you get by coming up with ideas under the water? How does being under water help you?

22:03

Nakamatsu: Yes. Oxygen is enemy for brain. If you want to have very good idea, oxygen is very, very strong enemy for brain.

22:13

Restaurant

Simkin: The doctor's brain has been starved of a lot of oxygen over the years, but that's not the only secret of his success. He only has one carefully selected meal each day. For the last 30 years he's taken a record of everything he's eaten, to help determine what foods hinder his head.

22:36

Nakamatsu: If I have bad condition of brain, I shall look up my record three days ago. Then I can find what was bad for my brain.

22:51

Simkin: He also keeps careful note of what foods help his brain. They then become key ingredients in his range of patented intelligence-enhancing products.

22:58

Nakamatsu: Yummy Nutri good for brain. Snack. Also brain drink, which is good for brain. Drink. And also, this is wine, good for brain.

23:28

Simkin: You take such good care of yourself. How long do you hope to live? Do you expect to increase your life expectancy through all of this?

Nakamatsu: According to my theory, it is possible 144 years.

24:09

Simkin: After dinner, as a night on the town beckoned, the doctor unveiled his most amazing invention.

Love Jet

Nakamatsu: This is Love Jet. Important thing is how to eat, how to sleep, how to drink. This is very important, how to sex.

24:29

Simkin: The Love Jet is a spray that's apparently 10 times better than Viagra. But unlike that drug, Love Jet is for women. The doctor says he invented it in the national interest.

Nakamatsu: Japanese population is decreasing very much, which is very afraid for future. So in order to save Japan, I invented this.

Simkin: Have you done research and testing on this product?

24:57

Nakamatsu: More than 10,000 ladies on the bed.

Simkin: You, personally?

Nakamatsu: Personally. So many people misunderstanding me. You are so tough.

Nakamatsu on cruise boat

Simkin: There's no doubt the doctor is popular, and not just with the ladies. He says there are more than six million members of his official fan club. We were invited to a gathering of the faithful on a cruise boat. The guru played his theme song, all eight minutes of it.

Simkin: There weren't quite six million people in attendance. But those who did turn up were certainly diehard fans. Even the members of a rival party were thrilled to meet the world's greatest inventor.

Simkin: The doctor retired to his own room, and his fans queued up to buy brain-enhancing products. The brain chair, brain boots and brain food didn't do much for my intelligence, but they certainly seemed to be doing a lot for Dr. Nakamatsu.
