Later I arrested the terrorists who carried out the attack. They admitted my car was under surveillance for more than a month.

القيت القبض لاحقا على الارهابيين الذين نفذوا الهجوم واعترفوا بأن سيارتي كانت تحت المراقبة لأكثر من شهر. 

They said that when they saw my car, they thought I was in the car.

وقالوا انهم عندما شاهدوا سيارتي اعتقدوا انني كنت  بالسيارة

One of the main operations I did with Sarhad and Sirwan who was with us in the group, was at a bus terminal in Sulaymaniya.

An Iraqi officer with 3 trucks loaded with security forces, was harassing Kurdish people and not letting them get on with their daily lives.

That’s why we decided to attack them and shot a few of them. An officer and two of his men were wounded. Later the officer died in hospital.

They tortured me the most -Sarhad was the most wanted by the Iraqi government. I was the only one who knew his hiding place, but I never told them.

Awat’s mother: I had to bribe the authorities by selling everything, I gave them the documents of this house too just so they free him.

They fired mortars at us in 3 stages. The first time it fell in front of us. The dust was all over us. The second time it landed behind us.

قصفونا بالهاون على ثلاث مراحل المرة الأولى سقطت القذائف أمامنا وكان غبارها يهب باتجاهنا وفي المرة الثانية سقطت القذائف خلفنا

The third time, the mortars landed right on top of us.

All the men around me were injured. Kak Sherko the brigade commander was injured too.

I was hit as well but I was wearing my body armour, which had 3 to 4 pieces of shrapnel in it. Unfortunately it was a very bad situation.

Following the recent suicide bombing at the checkpoint, Serhad has closed the road between Kirkuk and the Islamic State territory.

بعد التفجير الانتحاري الأخير عند نقطة التفتيش، أغلق سرحد الطريق بين كركوك والأراض التي يسيطر عليها تنظيم الدولة الإسلامية

So there is no escape for civilians caught in areas of IS control, and those with relatives or business in the new Kurdish controlled areas are queuing to get in.

سرحد: أصبحت حياتنا وكركوك واحدة، وضحينا بالكثير من أجل كركوك، استشهد أخي واصبت أكثر من ثلاث عشر مرة. طردنا من المدينة استشهد وجرح الكثير من أبناء المدينة وصار في المدينة الكثير من اليتامى وقتل مائتان وخمسة واربعون من قواتي أنه امر صعب.
