Bombs have exploded at the stock exchange, a mosque and even a diplomat’s house … always coinciding with an attempt by Wahid’s government to question an old Suharto crony or family member over corruption.


And last Christmas Eve - in a dramatic escalation of this campaign - eighteen died and 120 were injured when bombs ripped through eighteen churches across Java and Sumatra

An immediate investigation led by Indonesia’s Human Rights Commission found criminals and Islamic

extremists had planted the bombs.
