Afghans have long squabbled over solutions to their history of war and invasion. Now the world thinks it can help them to agree. Few are keen to replace the Taliban with the Northern Alliance, but there is hope that the former King, Zahir Shah, will return to unite the Afghans. One thing is clear however, Afghanistan looks set for yet another upheaval.
